Coming up to 40 years experience in architectural metalwork, I recently stumbled upon an exciting and challenging new opportunity.
I was asked by my local village Residents Association to create a memorial bench to commemorate 100 years since World War I. This involved working with mainly metal and wood. My vision for the memorial bench was achieved successfully and it is now situated in the heart of the village.
With an overwhelming amount of positive feedback, I was inspired to then create bespoke sculptures from various mediums of metal, including cycle parts, cutlery and various other recycled components. Today I continue to develop my vision.
I hope you enjoy looking at my work.

THE RIVERSIDE STUDIO
Coming up to 40 years experience in architectural metalwork, I recently stumbled upon an exciting and challenging new opportunity.
Viv was born in Alnwick, Northumberland and attended the Duchess’s School where she was inspired by her art teacher Anna Watson and her love of art and music. From there she completed a foundation course in Art and Design at Leicester Polytechnic and gained a BA (Hons) Degree in Graphic Design, specializing in illustration, at the Lanchester Polytechnic, Coventry.
She moved to London where she applied her illustration skills and love of portraiture to various design projects for Creative Consultants Stylorouge including music packaging for Alison Moyet, Johnny Mathis & Natalie Cole and Paul Kossoff, and visuals for Paul Young, George Michael & Wham! and Blur together with film posters and other projects. Further clients included BBC Publications, Acrobat Design and the Oxford University Press.
Viv has now returned home to her beloved Northumberland and lives in Alnmouth, where she has set up The Riverside Studio with her partner Graeme to showcase her paintings and prints of local scenes in acrylics and watercolour and inspired by the Northumberland coast where she grew up. Her studio overlooks the river Aln and estuary and she offers visits by appointment. She is probably best known in Alnwick for her large scale ‘Comedy Great’ paintings which adorned the auditorium at Alnwick Playhouse before its renovation.

Northumberland-based artist Laura Scrimshaw has developed a recognisable and distinctive contemporary style with an impressionist influence. Having grown up in rural Northumberland, Laura is influenced by the stunning landscapes and seascapes of the local area and also enjoys individual studies of trees.
Laura was offered a place to study Fine Art at Newcastle University, but realised that the conceptual art course wasn’t really what she wanted. She devoted her time to enjoying her art as a hobby and was also encouraged by her maternal Grandmother, who was an accomplished artist. She enjoys using mixed-media combinations, which are often acrylic and watercolour paints, inks and sometimes mixing sand with the paint.
Laura has a real love of the sea, so having the Northumberland coast on her doorstep has been a huge bonus. Her paintings whether abstract or more detailed and traditional, are atmospheric and expressive compositions.

I'm Julie Birkett and I’m a dog/pet portrait Artist from the North East of England.
I've been around dogs the whole of my life which I feel has given me a greater insight into their personalities and character. I've always loved painting and began painting pet portraits through my own Boxer dogs.
I then proceeded to paint portraits of the pets of friends and family and seeing their overwhelming reactions inspired me to create a social media platform that enabled me to reach out to others who were interested in a portrait of their own pet. Since then I have painted portraits for clients worldwide and many high profile celebrities.
I work from my home studio which is perfect as it enables me to do what I love whilst still being with my own 3 Boxers.
Thanks for reading and I hope you like my work.

With the River Tyne at my feet, the beautiful coastline to my side and Northumberland at my head, as a child I was inspired by its beauty and rich heritage.
My creativity developed into my passion for art in many mediums and to capture subjects in such a way that has led to what you now see before you.
Every subject has been carefully chosen to portray the detail, beauty and diversity through it can become.
I have built a reputation from previous clients, for my attention to detail and conveying my pieces in an appealing way.

Jamie Birkett is a contemporary artist from Newcastle, England who has commissioned for both local and international clients.
Jamie experimented with drawing, painting, sculpting, etching and printmaking all throughout his school years. It became an interest of his to find out what was achievable in the subject of painting.
His study involves looking at different landscapes and scenery and through that the many variables allow him to find out what is and what isn’t possible, making the process more curious and interesting.
Throughout each painting Jamie’s goal is to create a realistic representation of the subject in a way that is “aesthetically engaging and technically innovative that can also connect with the viewer”.

I have enjoyed drawing and painting all my life, so it seemed natural to go on to study art after leaving school.
After a year at Newcastle College of Art and three years at Bath Academy of Art, I graduated as a graphic designer, and earned my living in this profession.
I have recently retired, so now have time to concentrate on my passion for drawing and painting, which has been a life long adventure in learning the art of making my mark. I have, to date, exhibited in various locations in the North East and since carried out comissions in both design and illustration.
Currently, I am exploring the use of acrylics but also like to explore use of oils, watercolour, pastel and pencil. Most of my subject matter, the people and the places, and big skies, are inspired by where I live, in Northumberland.
HTMLText_93EB241F_E04E_E396_41DB_C20CC7D44FC7_mobile.html = Jim Kearney
I have always had a passion for painting, drawing and design and in 1972 I enrolled at Newcastle Polytechnic to start a three year HND in Business Studies with a Diploma in Industrial Design. My intention at that time was to find a career in design, however life often doesn't go according to plan and I found myself working in a corporate environment in Information Technology. I spent the next twenty eight years there until I felt enough was enough, I had served a life sentence!
In 2002 I decided to try my hand at being a full time Landscape Photographer. Although I had no formal training in photography I had spent a great deal of time taking pictures as an amateur. It all started when I used to take reference photographs to use whilst indulging my other passions, walking and climbing, including a number of years spent in completing the Munros (all the mountains in Scotland over 3,000 feet, a total of 284). I would always take a camera with me to record my trips, with varying degrees of success.
I was determined to improve my photographs and would study them intently to determine why some looked good and others not so good.
Over time I started to build up a depth of knowledge and techniques in order to gain more consistent results.
2002 was a long hard year, I built up a portfolio of images and started trying to find outlets for my work, which is not easy as there is a lot of competition out there. However, slowly but surely I managed to get my work out there and over the last few years the demand has grown consistently.
I now exhibit in a number of Galleries in the North of England and Scotland. Over the years I have developed an individual style and I like to concentrate on panoramic landscapes as I think this format is ideally suited to capturing the sense of space.
In order to retain creative control over the final product I like to do everything in-house from taking the photographs to printing and framing the finished images. All of the materials I use are of the highest quality, ensuring that your finished picture will last a lifetime without fading.

HTMLText_986B7D74_E047_3DAA_41E7_DA8B10C622FB_mobile.html = Anthony
Anthony has always drawn and sketched, his mother has said he was born clutching a paint brush and although he had painted for many years, it was the early 1990’s before he began to exhibit his work and achieve some success.
His work reflects his love of colour and design and the subject matter covers the Artistic Spectrum from Figurative to Landscape.
He is continually developing his understanding of form and colour using the unique medium of acrylics and mixed media. This allows him to take the painting to a point where he is satisfied that his initial aims have been achieved. Although many of his influences are diverse, all are strongly grounded in colour.
He held several solo exhibitions at Browns Gallery in Jesmond in the 1990’s one of which was sponsored by the Allied Irish Bank. The bank also had a collection of his work in their Newcastle branch and the University of Northumbria have paintings in their Business Centre. His work can be found in many private collections including those of the Duchess of Northumberland.
In March 2003 Anthony travelled to Berlin with members of the Newcastle-Gateshead Initiative to represent the North East at the massive tourism convention and completed a painting of Tyneside which was filmed and broadcast on local television.
While Anthony is known for urban and rural landscapes, he loves to experiment using mixed media to portray people and the world in all of their fascinating aspects.

Ink and watercolour artworks celebrating rural life within our British countryside.
Yorkshire born and bred, Eleanor Tomlinson is an award-winning artist & illustrator based in Willerby, East Yorkshire. Her artwork is inspired by the local countryside she has grown up amongst, including all the wildlife found within it; great and small.
Working quickly & loosely with ink & watercolour allows Eleanor to capture energy and movement as she combines traditional, well-loved subjects with a contemporary, illustrative twist.
Eleanor has been selling her artworks and taking on commissions since her mid-teens which travelled across the UK and the world. Her creative business and brand started on an overcrowded kitchen table at her family home in 2011 when she was 14 years old, starting with a new yearly limited edition Christmas card range. Over the years, whilst studying at school and university, she has increased and developed her designs and expanded into stationery, limited edition prints and most recently her homeware range.
Following the end of her Illustration course at her Degree Show in June 2019, where Eleanor received the Arts Entrepreneur Award 2019, Eleanor went straight into working full-time for her creative business. She later graduated from York St John University with a First-Class Honours degree in Illustration at York Minster in November 2019. At her graduation Eleanor received 3 awards for her academic and creative achievements; the Art Undergraduate Final Project/Dissertation Prize, Art Undergraduate Programme Prize and the School of Art, Design and Computer Science Prize.
We are proud to work with leading British manufacturers & suppliers, with the majority of Eleanor’s products being designed, printed & manufactured in Yorkshire.

When Ian took early retirement a few years ago he rediscovered his love of painting. He is entirely self taught and over the years has developed his own individual style.
Ian takes his inspiration from the local landscape. His bold bright work has been compared to stained glass.
Everyday life and the vibrancy of the local landscape is what inspires Ian to put brush to paper and his interpretation of colour.

'"I'm Julie Birkett and I’m a dog/pet portrait Artist from the North East of England.
I work from my home studio which is perfect as it enables me to do what I love whilst still being with my own 3 Boxers."
Thanks for reading and I hope you like my work.

HTMLText_FEA8BA39_E049_5938_41E1_65C92620A4D0.html = Jim Kearney
